Easter Rising Centenary

The Irish 1916 Easter Rising Centenary and those who died was commemorated in Dublin over Easter 2016, and reflected Ireland’s wish for peace and reconciliation, including respect for the unionist tradition.
Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of Dublin for the largest public spectacle in the Irish republic’s history, the centre of which was the GPO building in O’Connell Street, and the Spire of Dublin, which replaced Nelson Pillar (blown up in 1966 by the IRA).
