The School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Ritchie CBE RA RIBA FRSA as Visiting Professor of Architectural Engineering.
Professor Ian Ritchie, principal of Ian Ritchie Architects (London) and founding director of Rice Francis Ritchie (RFR Paris) will be working closely with Professor Neil Jackson with the aim of achieving ARB/RIBA Part 1 accreditation for the four year MEng Architectural Engineering degree. This degree, which has been established for many years, already has recognition from the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE and IStructE) and graduates are regularly employed in leading engineering practices such as Arup, Buro Happold, Price & Myer and Whitby Bird & Ptnrs.
Students spend the third year of their studies in the USA at Pennsylvania State University before returning to a final year at Leeds where they learn to design large-span buildings in which the integration of building services and an holistic approach to architectural design are fundamental to the process.
The architectural programme is directed by the Hoffman Wood Professor of Architectural Engineering, Neil Jackson, who was appointed to the position in October 2000. Since then, ten graduates of the course have been awarded, as external candidates, ARB/RIBA Part 1.
