Dead Ground publication

Dead Ground, edited by Andrew McNeillie & James McNeillie and published by Clutag, is essentially a British and Irish perspective looking at patriotism, war-making, imperialism and colonialism, regime change and nation-building, past and present.

Ian Ritchie’s contribution to this book is a short essay on the symbolism of The Spire of Dublin.

There are thirty contributions by celebrated war correspondents, photo journalists (Don McCullin) former soldiers, essayists, artists, critics and established poets (Douglas Dunn, Andrew Motion). They are arranged in reversed chronological order, broadly from Armistice Day  2018 to 1918, from Afghanistan to ‘Flanders Fields’, from the poppy as a cause of war to the poppy as a symbol of remembrance.
